PRblem with decoding

Hi

I made a few back up DVD of my files,before erasing my hard drive no problem.
After reinstalling all the software I need the back up files don't work.
PDF's are not PDF's and excel sheet's are not excel sheet's, according to the software's.

Any one had the same problem? or advise what to do to get the data back?

File associations is not DB related problem.
