Product does not see to work at all

I am looking for soft ware to create DVDs, so I download Deep DVD Movie. I can pull in an avi file but the preview plays sound but no video. There is not documentation. I know its free but give me a break. I purely doesn't work. Why offer junk like this to waste peoples' time?
